Our Trip to Canada

We just got back from a trip to Canada for Jessica's wedding. It was a good trip, though when we got back and finally made it into bed, Marshall said that he needed a vacation to recover from the one we just had. Our drive home yesterday, which normally takes about 12 hours, took us 16 hours because of the horrible roads. Everytime we do this we swear we will never drive up in the winter again, but we always forget the misery. It is also different with Mason in the car. Not only do we need to keep him entertained, but we find ourselves driving a lot more carefully.

Mason has been so clingy to his parents lately. I drove up to Canada with Mason and Annie (sister-in-law) on Saturday, and Marshall drove up with Scott on Wednesday. From Saturday to Wednesday, Mason would not let me out of his sight. His grandpa wanted to play with him so bad, but if I wasn't in the room, Mason would get so upset. Then when Marshall got there Wednesday night until now, Mason hardly notices me. He is just all over his dad all the time. Even if I'm with him and his dad leaves the room, Mason whines and tried to find him. It is cute that it is attached, but we get really tired of not being able to leave him alone for a minute.

Mason did really well in the long car drive home. He slept a lot of time, but when he woke up and was fed, he just got so bored. I was sleeping in the reclined passenger seat and all of a sudden Mason would yank my hair and wake me up and then laugh. He would also play peek-a-boo constantly. He thinks that is the best game in the universe. So after 16 hours in the car, when we finally got home a little after 10 PM Marshall and I were absolutely exhausted. But Mason woke up and was bouncing off the walls. He was so happy to be home! He just went from room to room, pulling out all his toys, his books from the bookshelf, laughing and so happy. When we tried to calm him down by putting him in his swing, he roped Marshall into a game. Marshall would put a ball on the tray of Mason's swing and Mason would knock it off. Marshall would say "aughh" and dive for it, and Mason would laugh hysterically. He laughed more and louder than I have ever heard him before. It was so funny. He would have kept doing it all night if Marshall hadn't been so tired.

This morning Mason woke up happy, but we were really worried about how he would react to going back to the babysitters because he was so clingy lately. But I just called Marshall and he said that he was just fine. All the kids were there and happy to see him, and he didn't even notice that Marshall was leaving. What a great kid! I'll post tons of pictures of our trip when we get settled a little more.
