Keeping Up With the Joneses

Today is our anniversary and Marshall's work sent him to Denver last night until Friday. I was pretty dissapointed, but felt like I couldn't say much since we spent the last week on a cruise that they paid for (as a reward for his productivity last year). So I was kind of feeling sorry for myself this morning, then I came home from work and. . .there was a huge poinsetta and huge beautiful gift basket from Kneaders on my table! From Marshall? you ask. . .of course not! From his work! The card said they felt bad for taking him on our anniversary so they sent this to make me feel better. The Kneaders basket is so great! Cookies, pumpkin loaf, 2 loaves of my favorite bread, chocolotes, jam, artichoke spread, and more. So tonight I'm catching up on the tv I missed last week and enjoying a great dinner! Poor Marshall is working late into the night in a lonely hotel room. Awwwwwww. . .

Okay, I finally just put these videos on youtube since the blogger wasn't working. Myles started crawling this weekend and it has opened up a whole new world for him and Mason. Mason loves it because he pretends that Myles is a tunnel and Mason crawls under him, which usually knocks Myles over, but he doesn't seem to mind. I think these videos are so cute because they are laughing and playing together. Myles also grew one tooth and has another on the way. I think they are bothering him a little, but he is such a good kid he doesn't seem to mind. Don't worry--it looks like Myles hits his head in this one, but he was fine. He has been hitting his head a lot lately but we're hoping it won't have any long-term effects!

Marshall and I left last Monday for a 4 night cruise. It was so much fun and very relaxing. We flew to LAX early monday morning, and then caught a shuttle to the pier. We left that night for San Diego, where Marshall and I shopped around a bit and then decided to take the train down to Tijuana, Mexico for a cultural experience. I had been there probably 15 years or so ago, and it was actually better than I remembered. It was Marshall's first time in Mexico. One funny thing happened when we were walking down the street. Marshall had his BYU hat on, and one of the shop owners yelled at us to look (we were mostly ignorning the aggressive shop owners). We looked, and he had a painting of Joseph Smith! The next day we sailed to Catalina Island, where we were tendered into the harbor. Marshall went snorkling while I rented a bike and rode around the island (to work of all that yummy cruise food). Myles and Mason had a wonderful time at grandma's while we were gone. Deb said that this is pretty much how Mason spent the first few days--on the couch watching Thomas. She said that after one movie was over he said "okay grandma, let's watch it again but this time you don't fall asleep." This was the biggest event of the whole week. Myles learned to stand up! Deb was downstairs and heard him making noise and when she came up he was like this and so proud of himself! He's so close to crawling and can crawl for a few steps, but he loves being able to stand up. When I went to pick up the kids last night, Mason was happy to see me but more concerned that we couldn't leave until he had dessert at Kim's. Myles, however, looked like he was going to explode with excitement. I missed them so much!

We had another busy weekend at the Jones home. On Thursday night/Friday morning, Mason was up almost all night with his ear infection. He had been on antibiotics since the friday before and seemed to be better all week, but it came back in full force. The poor boy. Myles was also sounding really congested, so for the second friday in a row, I packed them up and took them to the doctor's. Mason got a different antibiotic and Myles' ear infection was gone but he had a tiny bit of croup, so he got some new medicine too. Friday was a really rough day with both kids very fussy. Yesterday was a bit better, mostly because Mason was feeling better and Jessica was here to help out. We finished drywalling the crawl space for the playroom and got some Christmas decorations put up. Last night Mason slept pretty well but woke up this morning with his ear hurting again. Last night Mason's grandma and grandpa came to visit. They wanted to take him to Delta for the night and I kept saying no because they will have him the week of thanksgiving while we are on our cruise. But then I realized it would probably be best because the person who babysits our boys (Kira) has a sick baby and it would be easier on her if she just had the two babies instead of two babies and a hyper toddler. So I was thinking about it and I said to Mason "but won't you miss me?" He said about a million times, trying to convince me "don't worry mom, I WILL NOT miss you. . .don't worry I won't miss you at all. . .I won't miss you mom, I love grandma delta." Then later I was talking about his Canadian backpack and how grandma and grandpa Goates live in Canada. I said "where do you live?" and he yelled "DELTA!" He wishes. . .

We just got back from the doctors and pharmacy and both boys have ear infections. Myles has both ears infected and Mason has it really bad in one ear. They both got antibiotics so I've drugged them up and hopefully they will sleep for a while. My poor boys!

Mason woke up around 10 PM last night crying and screaming that his ear hurt. He was up until 2 until it finally felt better. Then Myles woke up with a really bad croup-like cough. My poor little boys! We're going to the doctors later and hopefully they will feel better.

This afternoon Mason was playing with the orange I gave him and he dropped it on the ground. I was loosing my patience and I said "Mason, pick it up right now!" He said "mommy, don't say right now! Say 'please, could you pick it up sweetheart?'" That broke my heart!

* Myles is getting so close to crawling. He can get to just about anything he wants by creeping along the floor. The other day he was up on his tip-toes and hands and pushed so hard with his legs that he did a sommersault! * Myles loves to torment Mason. As soon as Mason starts playing trains, Myles starts squirming to be put down. He crawls over to the tracks and picks up either a train or a piece of track and Mason FREAKS OUT! I've taught Mason that he has to share with Myles, but he sure hates it. * Mason has picked up some funny phrases lately and he comes up with them at the weirdest time. I was telling him about what I did at work that day and he said "mommy, you know your stuff!" I laughed and then he said "and I know my Thomas stuff". Sunday when I was getting him dressed I was telling him what to do and he said "mommy, you're bossy." The other morning I gave him a a banana and he said "this is a joy stick to play star wars" (t...
