Mason is Growing Up

I've been noticing the last few weeks how much Mason is growing up. Over the last month he worked really hard and earned enough money (along with cleaning out his bank account) to buy a big lego set he has been wanting. A few days after buying it, he started worrying that he had spent his money and one day after school he went out to the front yard to sell some of his old toys. The only person who stopped was a creepy old man who got out right in front of him and walked towards him, stopped when he saw me sitting on the porch, and turned around and got back into his car and sped off. No more playing in the front yard without a lot of supervision!
He will need to find another way to earn some money.

Mason is totally in love with Cub Scouts and anything to do with hiking or the outdoors. Last week there was a scout hike and Mason noticed that some other scouts had pocket knives. He talked to his dad about it and Marshall found his old cub scout pocket knife to give to him. They had a lesson on safety and then Marshall gave him a test to make sure he could use it safely, and Mason spent the rest of the day whittling sticks into spears. The downside--now we have a whole bunch of sharp, point sticks all over our yard that Max and Myles get a little carried away with.

I think Mason's favorite thing to do in the world is hike. Pretty much every day after school he asks if he can go hiking and unfortunately even though we have great hills and mountains right behind us he is not ready to go alone yet. Last weekend when we went up to Squaw Peak for a picnic he kept taking off on little hikes (where we could see him), followed by his little brothers. This kid is going to be a mountain goat like his dad and grandpas!
